Festival of Stuff: Open day
Festival of Stuff Public EventsCome along on Saturday 27th June for our second extravaganza of Stuff!!
This five day festival will culminate in a public event on a grand scale. We will be taking over the whole street outside of the Institute of Making for our finale, filling it with demo-stalls and making stations, bringing back this year's favourite activities and some new discoveries.
Contribute to a large scale woven willow sculpture, make a pair of bespoke spectacles with different optical effects with Shelley James and see if you can walk in a straight line along the hand painted yellow road markings whilst wearing them. Watch urban alchemist Hilary Powell printmaking on a massive scale with a road roller and reclaimed demolition materials. Have a go at raising copper sheet into a bowl, make your very own spoon from copper pipe, and create a wire sculpture with artist Helaina Sharpley.
Watch scientist Andres Tretiakov perform a dangerous thermite experiment, set fire to custard and sacrifice a gummy bear all in the name of science. Launch your own rocket made from alka-saltzer, water and a small plastic tube. Take a photograph without using a camera with Angela Easterling. Make your own electronic instrument using conductive paint and paper with Codasign.
Join brass band DatBrass for a boogie and there will be some free 99’ ice creams and carbonated drinks for the first 400 people. We will also have a special Institute of Making merchandise stall.
