Festival of Stuff: Laminate Wood Forming Masterclass

Festival of Stuff

Join engineers and designers Jailmake for a masterclass in creating laminate wood. You will be introduced to some of the basics of the process, try out techniques and consider where and why it occurs in design and manufacturing.

Throughout the day you will construct a piece of lighting from laminated timber, using moulds and a former you will have made. To make the laminate you will be predominantly using vacuum moulds to laminate veneer timbers to make ply constructions.

Jailmake is a practice of 3D designers and engineers with an embedded ethos of design through making. They work across all scales and typologies from their South London studio and workshop. Jailmake’s work seeks to strengthen the connections between nature, people and place; incorporating traditional craft and digital technologies to solve problems. Projects range from jewellery, furniture and lighting, through to large-scale immersive environments, visual merchandising, interior design and prototype housing.
