Member Events

***Apologies for earlier booking issues - booking for this masterclass is now OPEN!***

Join furniture maker Stefano Santili to learn about steam-bending and how to push the boundaries wood with both steam chambers and microwaves. In this masterclass we will be investigating motives and techniques for steam-bending strips of timber in order to make 3D structures. Stefano will explore how to join the pieces together and how to use the processes to create a basket, a light modulator, a sculptural form or your own creative invention! Materials and LED torches will be provided.

Stefano Santilli exhibits work and lectures internationally, with an established studio practice in Brighton. He creates finely crafted and unique objects made from wood, metals and polymers using digital, traditional and experimental technologies. A Senior Lecturer in the School of Art at the University of Brighton, Stefano is currently preparing a series of digitally generated and steam folded wooden vessels for the Crafts Council's Collect show at the Saatchi Gallery, London.
