Member Masterclass: Super 8 Film

Member Events

Join our summery masterclass to shoot actual film on Super 8 and learn how to develop it yourself using washing soda, vitamin C tablets and coffee. Teams of participants will be lent Super 8 cine-cameras and given an hour to shoot footage... documentary, drama, silent comedy, experimental; the choice is yours! Then using household items and a few darkroom chemicals, workshop leader Ben Slotover will show participants how to develop the Super 8 film themselves. Finally the films will be dried, spooled and projected for that rare treat – same day viewing of freshly shot film footage!

Ben Slotover is a film maker and writer from London. He is one of the organisers of the London film club Exploding Cinema, developing new ways of shooting and exhibiting independent short films. He has worked in the media production industry and written for Channel four and the BBC as well as having his own films shown in festivals worldwide. His research and advice for filmmakers is regularly posted on his YouTube channel ‘zero budget film school'.
