Member Workshop: Woodblock Printmaking

Member Events

Join events assistant and printmaker, Ella West, for an introductory session in woodblock printmaking techniques using side-grain wood. Working from a black-and-white image or drawing, participants will learn how to prepare designs on the woodblock and explore the process of carving with differently-shaped tools. Ella will also demonstrate the basics of paper registration, inking the block and printing the designs onto paper.

This two-hour workshop is designed to be a fun starter session into exploring the wonder of the materials, tools, and techniques used. Whilst we hope that everyone will have an opportunity to take at least one print away with them, the beauty of this process is that the block can be handprinted without a press and so printing can be continued at home.

Please bring any images or sketches that you would like to work with (black and white if possible).

All welcome! No experience or skills necessary.
