Members Masterclass: Afternoon session - Basket Weaving

Member Events

Annemarie’s work is rooted in the ancient craft of basket making. She uses weaving and binding techniques that have been used for hundreds of years to create everything from domestic objects to larger architectural woven forms. In her own words, “my passion is in all things woven, knotted and netted”. Annemarie works mainly with willow and coppiced wood and her work is a response to the materials she grows and gathers herself.

In the morning class you will have the opportunity to learn to weave using freshly harvested willow. Kneeling on the floor, you will learn a very simple technique to make a Catalan tray.

The afternoon session is slightly more technical, using year-old willow that has been dried and then soaked, to make a small frame basket.

Neither of the two sessions require any experience. Both are separate events and require booking via the members area.
