Members Masterclass: Paper Making
Member EventsJoin book artist and papermaker Mandy Brannan in this all-day masterclass to discover the creative possibilities of combining two papermaking techniques; traditional style Japanese papermaking with Western style papermaking. The masterclass will begin with hand-beating kozo fibres, which adds both strength and delicacy to the work. The following stage will be working with plant material and recycled pulps with found papers. Create experimental paper sheets by combining kozo fibres, garden plant fibres and recycled pulp.
Mandy says about her process: " I love the endless possibilities of using natural fibres that can be hand beaten, chopped, pigmented, manipulated and pushed 95% of the time – 5% of the time they do their own thing – that’s the nature of natural fibres! The pleasure resulting from making paper by hand can evoke a satisfactory sense of personal accomplishment, one that can satisfy a creative need that comes from working with a medium that can entrance and continue to be open to new experimentation, even after 25 years of making."
Instead of simply making a plain sheet of paper or an empty book, every participant attending Mandy's class will be able to bring their own histories, skills and design ideas into life. She offers a medium that can enable many transformative possibilities.
This masterclass is suitable for ages 18+, aside from that, no experience or skill necessary, all welcome!
Important information about our ticket ballot for this event:
- We are trialling a ballot system for ticket booking for our paper making masterclasses in November 2022, in case it proves to be a fair and easy method for people to obtain tickets to our public events in the future.
- Entering the ballot means that you've entered into a draw for the opportunity to book a ticket to a masterclass. From Thursday 27th October onwards, successful entrants will be sent a booking link, which must be completed within 24 hours to secure a ticket.
- Unfortunately, the ballot may be oversubscribed, so entering it doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be offered tickets.
- The ballot is open for a limited time: from 5:00am on Tuesday 25th October until 23:59pm on to Wedednesday 26th October..
- Once tickets are fully booked, we will notify everyone and offer the opportunity to join the waiting list.
