Member Masterclass: Sketch Modelling Masterclass

Member Events

Join model maker and artist, Ellie Sampson, for an insightful introduction into the intricacies of paper model making. Working from your own sketches and images, participants will create a 3D paper cut compositions. Ellie will also teach some of the basic skills needed to make models neat and carefully crafted, as well as ensuring they retain a sense of dynamism and depth.

Ellie Sampson is a model maker and paper artist living and working in London. After training to become an architect at the Bartlett School of architecture, she became the full-time model maker at Haworth Tompkins in 2019. Ellie enjoys utilising varied processes, from detailed paper and laser cutting to 3D printing and casting. Her innovative model making style attempts to showcase a mix of materials, textures and relatable details from the built environment.

No experience or skill necessary, all welcome!

To take part in the session you need to:

send 3 images of buildings or spaces - or an architectural sketch if you feel able - by Wednesday 20th October to events@instituteofmaking.org.uk

We have adopted some temporary measures for our in-person events, to ensure the safety of our team and to help everyone attending to feel as comfortable as possible.

Face coverings

At our in-person events, all participants are required to wear a face covering. If you are unable to wear a face covering, please book our online events instead. We are happy to help you find an online event or to work with you to work out a type of face covering that will enable you to attend the in-person event. Email events@instituteofmaking.org.uk with any questions.

COVID symptoms

If you experience any COVID-19 symptoms, including a temperature, please cancel your event booking through our website and stay at home. We know it can be disappointing to miss an event, but it is important to keep everyone safe.

Do you have specific access requirements?

We would like to make sure that everyone can join our events and use our website as easily as possible. Please message us if you need any particular support or assistance while attending our space or using our platforms, so we can ensure those.
