A close up of hands throwing a pot on the potters wheel

We are testing activities for our public programme, and invite everyone in the Marshgate and Pool Street buildings to drop into our Stratford Space to try the potters' wheel. We will provide balls of clay and a throwing coach, and challenge you to see how tall or wide a shape you can make within 5 minutes.

What to expect

  • Come to the Institute of Making ground floor entrance in the Marshgate Building, Stratford, between 12-2pm to join in.
  • Taking part in this activity could be as quick as ten minutes end-to-end, although if it is busy there may be a queue.
  • The activity is quite messy: your clothes may get splashed by clay water (which will clean out in the wash) and you will need to wash your hands afterwards.
  • This activity is a taster session only. To use our pottery wheels in the future, please register as a member of the Institute of Making and then follow the required training sessions for the wheels.
