Description
This bell is made from brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, and was used in school playgrounds to summon the children in from their breaks. When rung, this bell produces an extremely loud and bright sound with a shrill attacking timbre at a pitch of 1497Hz, which is close to F#6. The nature of the sound produced is due to the shape of the object and the particular stiffness and elastic modulus of brass. It is no coincidence that entire families of instruments are made from this material, as it is extremely acoustically resonant.
