Fluorocarbon Liquid (evaporated)

This colourless liquid may have the appearance of water in this vial, but it is actually its antithesis. This is a fluorocarbon liquid and it is extremely inert and non-reactive. Fluorocarbons have the unusual property of being both hydrophobic and lipophobic, which means this liquid won’t mix with either water or organic solvents, nor will it conduct electricity. The upshot of this is that an electronic item such as a mobile phone will continue to operate inside the liquid. The liquid also can dissolve very high proportions of oxygen, which means it can be used for liquid breathing in deep-sea diving. The attractive forces between fluorocarbon molecules are quite low, which means these liquids are not very viscous, but are generally much denser than water due to high molecular weights.
