Insect Cocoons

Material ID: 777

Description

This naturally golden fabric is made from the lacy pupae of the Indonsesian Cricula silk moth. These insect cocoons lose their golden shine when degummed and spun into a yarn, becoming a dull yellow. However, artisans have worked out that if they open the cocoons up and mould them into a sheet shape they retain their sheen and can be used decoratively in textiles.
