Phosphorescent Paint

Material ID: 343

Description

This glow-in-the-dark acrylic paint will carry on glowing long after the lights are turned off because of a property called phosphorescence. When things fluoresce, they emit the light energy which they absorb almost instantaneously. With phosphorescence, the absorbed light energy is actually emitted over a much longer time, meaning that a phosphorescent object will carry on glowing after the lights are turned off. The phosphorescent pigments in phosphorescent paints contain fine crystals of zinc sulphide with copper added as an activator that allows the crystals to absorb light and slowly emit it over time.
