About Membership
Why Become a Member?
Over the years, we’ve heard many reasons why our members love being a part of the Institute of Making. These include:
- The joy of exploring hands-on making in an encouraging and experimental environment.
- The day-to-day drop-in access to our multi-materials workshops.
- The freedom to make whatever you want to: whether members use our spaces to pursue hobbies, make presents for loved ones or prototype mechanisms for research, every project is welcome and important to us.
- The support our members receive from our friendly and knowledgeable technicians.
- The training sessions members can book, to learn how to use tools such as sewing machines, 3D printers, pottery wheels, and laser cutters.
- The opportunity to take part in one-of-a-kind masterclasses by expert makers in areas as diverse as blacksmithing, kintsugi, embroidery, woodwork and fermentation.
- The ability to browse and draw inspiration from our Materials Library.
- Access to progression opportunities through our paid internship scheme and our public engagement volunteer roles.
- The fun and supportive UCL maker community that members are welcomed into.
