How to access this tool
Drop-in use
Drop into the workshop during our opening hours to use this tool, but ask a technician if you need any training first.
Key information
Yellow tools require further training. Training will be available either in the form of a bookable tool training session, or by dropping into the space and making an arrangement with a technician.
A bandsaw is a power saw with a long, sharp blade consisting of a continuous band of toothed metal stretched between two or more wheels to cut material.
Our mini bandsaws are used principally in woodworking, but may cut a variety of materials including plastics. The main advantage of the mini bandsaw is the ability to cut irregular or curved shapes in very small pieces of work.
Some of our machines are connected to specific extraction that is not suitable for metals of plastics. Please check with a technician before cutting any material that is not wood.
Please note
Bamboo cannot be used on this machine. Check labelling on specific machines are suitable for the material you are using, as some are for wood only.
What can I use this tool for?
Suited to cutting wood, metal and plastics for small and fine applications and projects.
Cutting sheet material or square stock for small components, models or small pieces to be attached to larger objects.

What training do I need to use this tool?
General use of the bandsaw is covered in the New Members Induction which is applicable to the mini bandsaw. You must demonstrate competence of the normal bandsaw to a member of staff upon first use. Do not hesitate to ask a member of staff before using the mini bandsaw if you require a refresher after your induction.
