How to access this tool
Drop-in use
Drop into the workshop during our opening hours to use this tool, but ask a technician if you need any training first.
Key information
Yellow tools require further training. Training will be available either in the form of a bookable tool training session, or by dropping into the space and making an arrangement with a technician.
A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milling machine works with an input of coded programmed instructions, also known as a CNC toolpath. The toolpath guides the machine’s rotating multi-point cutting tools, which progressively remove areas of a piece of material from a workpiece. This computerised milling action allows you to produce an intricately machined object out of a solid block of material, which is why the CNC is often used to make custom-designed parts or products.
Mini CNC machines are particularly useful for small and delicate component parts that are difficult to make by hand and require precision.

What can I use this tool for?
CNC machines are ideal for producing lots of different objects that would be too complicated to machine by hand; from functional machine parts and design prototypes, to relief moulds, artistic sculptures, composite models and a lot more.

What training do I need to use this tool?
If you have a project that you are you think will require the use of a mini milling machine, please come to the workshop during opening hours and speak with one of our technicians. You will need to learn how to use one of the Roland software programs to create your own toolpath.
