Key information

Green tools are our general-use tools. These have either been demonstrated or explained in your New Members Induction, or are safe for use after a demonstration by a technician. Always ask a member of staff before using any green tools for the first time, or if you are not sure how to use these safely.

A random orbital sander is a hand-held power tool which uses a disc that sands in constant irregular overlapping circles. The random orbit sanding pattern is produced by simultaneously spinning the sanding disk and moving it in small ellipses. This ensures that no single part of the abrasive material travels the same path twice during the same rotation. Because of this random sanding action, the tool does not leave swirl marks, and is not sensitive to the direction of wood grain.

Please note

Random Orbital Sanders should not be used to remove large sections of material.

This machine cannot be used to sand anything that may create harmful dust.

Ensure the sander is connected to an extraction system when in use.

What can I use this tool for?
