A wood lathe is a type of lathe that is designed specifically for woodworking applications. A wooden workpiece is secured and rotated on its axis while cutting or abrasive tools are applied to make cuts. The wood lathe can be used to turn, shape, sand, drill, and face wooden workpieces.
Wood lathes are the oldest type of lathe and have been around in some form for thousands of years. Wood lathes are smaller and simpler than their metal counterparts. The speed at which they rotate workpieces is controlled by a basic pulley system driven by an electric motor.
